Lucky for moms (and families), Myrtle Beach is as effortless a family vacation destination as they come. Ideas abound for outings and events that the whole crew will genuinely enjoy, and here are six of our favorites.> read more
The trend toward non-smoking restaurants has already swept through much of the nation, but tobacco-producing and consuming states like South Carolina have been slow to dinner table. Although the vast majority of restaurants have separate sections for smoking and non-smoking or require patrons to step aside to a special section to enjoy an after-dinner cigarette, there are no state laws requiring them to ban smoking on site. It's up to each restaurant to decide their own smoking policy. Here are some of the top places to eat in a smoke-free environment.> read more
America sets aside certain holidays to honor its military veterans, but that’s not enough time for folks on the Grand Strand. They take the whole month of May to say thanks with the sixth annual Myrtle Beach Military Appreciation Days. Finding a place to stay on the Grand Strand is easy thanks to www.myrtlebeachhotels.com. Finding a place to park your car … not so much. With as many as a half million people and a slightly lower number of vehicles on the Strand at any point during the summer months, close, convenient parking can be a challenge, especially for those who like to get out and about during their vacation. Here are three tips to help you find a good spot for your ride.> read more
For thousands of years and in fishing villages all over the world, sacred ceremonies are held to call for a bountiful season and harvest. Although the tradition is not as old and the festival is much more diverse, Murrells Inlet carries on the custom Saturday, May 3, with the 18th annual Blessing of the Inlet at Belin United Methodist Church. Featuring a full day of food, fun and Christian fellowship, the Blessing of the Inlet offers a lot more than the blessing ceremony itself.> read more
Hmmm, a music festival in Conway? Well, that sounds nice. Wait a second — there’s a craft beer tasting, too? Pack the bags! Yes, that’s right, the Rivertown Music and Arts Festival is now the Rivertown Music and Craft Beer Festival (priorities have clearly been reordered).> read more
The smell of freshly cut grass, the sounds of cheering crowds and the crack of the bat, and the taste of hot dogs and Cracker Jacks: Those unmistakable signs can mean only one thing on the Grand Strand – the start of spring, baseball season and the arrival of our beloved home team, the Myrtle Beach Pelicans. The Class A minor-league franchise of the Texas Rangers kicks off the 2014 season at 7 p.m. Thursday at TicketReturn.com Stadium on 21st Avenue North in Myrtle Beach across from Broadway at the Beach, and the opening weekend series features four home games through Sunday afternoon.> read more

One thing can be guaranteed during a Myrtle Beach vacation: no one will be bored. Thanks to the new beachside tradition of Hot Summer Nights, that is as true as ever. An effort of Myrtle Beach’s Oceanfront Merchants Association, Hot Summer Nights is a months-long calendar of free and/or family-friendly events to be enjoyed on and around the 1.2-mile long Oceanfront Boardwalk and Promenade, recently completed in 2010 — think outdoor concerts, performers, carnivals and fireworks displays.> read more
A proposal before the city council seeking to change the name of Myrtle Beach to Carolina City appears to have the support of at least four of the seven council members. Proponents of the name change, which has drawn widespread criticism from locals and tourism leaders alike, say they have convinced enough city leaders the new name is best for the community. A vote would have to pass three readings but could happen as early as this summer if approved.> read more
