Huntington Beach State Park

A jewel of the Grand Strand, Huntington Beach State Park is a beautiful combination of beaches, marshes, woods, and trails with a stone castle at its heart! This South Carolina State Park was awarded the Certificate of Excellence 2013 by Trip Advisor and once you visit you will see why! A local and visitor favorite since it was opened to the public in 1960, there are wonderful things to behold at Huntington Beach State Park. With over 2500 acres, there is so much to do and see at Huntington Beach State Park. Start with a walk along the freshwater pond that you passed on your drive in. There you may see indigenous alligators and wildlife. On the opposite side is a salt marsh that ebbs and flows with the ocean tides filled with oysters, fish, birds and wildlife. Stop at the Nature Center for hands on learning and information. Walk or bike the many trails of Huntington, there are options for all fitness levels. At the beach you will find wide, beautiful expanses of white sand. During the summer, lifeguards keep a close eye on swimmers and beach goers. When you’re ready for a respite break out the picnic lunch at a shelter or cool-off in the castle. Originally the home of Archer and Anna Hyatt Huntington, this Moorish-style castle is full of interesting rooms where the Huntingtons and their staff lived. Mrs. Huntington had a large art studio in the castle where she kept live animals to model for her sculptures. In addition, there is fishing, camping, and guided walking and kayaking tours. The park is open year-round, Dec 7-Mar 6 am-6 pm, Mar-Apr 6 am-8pm, Apr 7-Nov 6am-10pm, Nov-Dec 6 am-6 pm.  Atalaya is an additional admission.
