Carolina Improv Company

As seen on television shows like “Whose Line Is It Anyway,” improvisation can be an entertaining and sometimes hilarious form of art when done well. Founded in 2008, Carolina Improv Company has been providing Grand Strand audiences with some much-needed laughs since opening the doors to their Uptown Theater at Myrtle Beach Mall. All in all, it’s a great way to spend a date night or group outing for locals and tourists alike.

The production company here puts on several different shows with most, but not all of them, catering to audiences old enough to vote. Show titles are indicative of the topic, and include the following:

Whose Beach is it Anyway? – an audience-interactive comedy about Myrtle Beach touching on topics like beach stores, all-you-can-eat buffets, bike rallies, snow birds gone wild, time share sales people, and more. All ages.
Whose College Night Out is it Anyway? – dedicated to college students, this show tackles subjects like dorm parties, finals, changing majors, Greek life, midterms, college sports, and whatever other relevant topics audiences can throw at them. 18+
Trashy Novel – a long form show that takes its subject matter from random and terrible fictional books that the audiences are encouraged to bring to the theater. 18+
Whose Night Out Is It Anyway? – the themes of this show are up for grabs, but typically include life, relationships, work, Myrtle Beach, and other real-world problems. 18+
Chick Dictionary – performed by the female members of Carolina Improv Company, this long-form comedy show takes its inspiration from the book Chicktionary. 18+
Four Letter Word – billed as “naughty, but not nasty,” the cast will take single four letter bad words from the audience and turn them into skits. 18+
50 Shades of Improv – there won’t be any sex talk in this long-form show about, you guessed it, 50 Shades of Grey, but the cast is sure to find a way to turn that into comedic theater. 18+
Jokers Wild – so two comedians (Mike Ritchie and Kevin Cox) pick an audience member, interview them, and turn it into a show. This one, not completely unlike the other shows, can literally go in any direction. PG-18.

In addition to the shows, Carolina Improv Company also offers Business Entertainment that includes team-building events, flashmob marketing, MC or keynote speakers, and whatever else you might need for whatever kind of budget your organization has. It’s probably also worth noting that TripAdvisor has consistently ranked this theater company as one of the top nightlife options in Myrtle Beach, often at #1.
