Hammock Shops Village

With several malls, outlet store locations, and large specialty shop venues, the Grand Strand offers plenty of shopping opportunities for visitors. However, none have the timeless charm or Southern elegance of Hammock Shops Village in Pawleys Island.

The namesake for this landmark dates back to 1889, when a riverboat captain fashioned the most comfortable and sturdy hammock around, watching it quickly gain in popularity over the ensuing decades. So by 1938, when his family opened The Original Hammock Shop, the captain’s rope sling was an obvious choice for the store, which also featured fresh crabs and oysters, art, and a nursery.

The 21st Century-version of The Hammock Shops features over 20 boutique stores, offering shoppers and browsers a wide variety of clothing, jewelry, accessories, shoes, candles, local foods, seasonal collectibles, fine wines, imported olive oil, home décor, souvenirs, sweets, bird houses, children’s books and games, and more.

For the foodie in your life, stop in to Carolina Gourmet at Pawleys for plenty of Southern foods, gift baskets, candy, cookbooks, cookware, gadgets, and other gifts. Those who live the salt life will enjoy Harbor Specialties, which offers Tilley Hats and Vera Wang, model yachts, signs, and decals. For the fashionista, no trip to Hammock Shops Village is complete without a visit to Pawleys Island Wear, featuring over a 100 designers of contemporary clothing, accessories, and jewelry. And don’t forget The Original Hammock Shop, home to world-famous rope hammocks, homemade fudge, garden gifts, local books, and more.

In addition, hammock and sweetgrass basket-weavings are demonstrated daily, which adds to the unique Lowcountry shopping venue that is nestled into the pines and oaks of Pawleys Island.
