Top 4 Reasons to Spend the Fourth of July in Myrtle Beach

By

Exercise your right to pursue happiness by celebrating the Fourth of July with a Myrtle Beach vacation. The highlight week of the summer season provides plenty of opportunities for fun on Independence Day. In honor of the Fourth, here are four reasons to spend it in Myrtle Beach:

• Fireworks: There's nothing quite like watching fireworks explode over the ocean while you relax on the beach. Bring a beach blanket and catch the pyrotechnic displays from various piers along the Strand. The main event on the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk launches from the Second Avenue Pier, but visitors can see the show from miles away along the coastline. Or you can hit the many entertainment complexes, like Broadway at the Beach, Barefoot Landing and Market Common, for a festive Fourth celebration. Where ever you want to watch them, you're sure to have a blast.

• Parades: Nothing says Independence Day like a parade, and there are several scheduled to take place along the Grand Strand. A more traditional parade down Myrtle Avenue takes place at the 48th Annual Pawleys Island Fourth of July Parade, featuring marching bands and patriotic-themed floats, as well as the Surfside Beach Fourth of July Celebration. For a more unique procession, check out the 31st Annual Murrells Inlet Boat Parade, where decorated boats form a flotilla and parade around the inlet. Spectators line the banks to see the red, white and blue lights adorning all kinds of watercraft.

• Live Music: There's always a great music scene on the Strand, but Myrtle Beach really cranks it up a notch for the Fourth of July. Free concerts kick off July 3rd for the weekly Music on Main series in North Myrtle Beach. Headline act Deluge plays a variety of tunes to kick start the celebration. Check out live shows on the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk and other hot spots on the Fourth, but save a little for the Independence Music Blast at La Belle Amie Vineyard. This all-day concert also features tours and wine tastings, as well as a traditional cookout.

• The Beach: Oh yeah, we almost forgot the biggest reason to spend the Independence Day in Myrtle Beach. With summer temperatures reaching their peak this time of year, it's the perfect time to beat the heat with a dip in the Atlantic Ocean or resort pool while relaxing on the beach or poolside. If you are truly pursuing happiness, the beach is the perfect place to find it.
