Georgetown Harborwalk

Under an hour’s drive from just about everywhere in Myrtle Beach (depending on traffic), Georgetown’s historic district is a doable day-trip option for those needing an escape from the hustle and bustle of the Grand Strand summer.

Dating back to at least the mid-1700’s, the street names, lot numbers, and many original homes are still intact in this waterfront neighborhood.

In addition to the old stuff, plenty of newer developments have been added to the area, such as restaurants, shops, museums, and marinas.

Eatery options include the award-winning fine-dining Rice Paddy Restaurant, the Lowcountry mainstay Lands End Restaurant, the casual and delicious Front Street Deli, and seafood specialist River Room.

Whether you’re in the market for something or you just like looking into windows, the Harborwalk has plenty of merchants including antiques, art galleries, book stores, trendy clothing boutiques, home furnishing stores, farmer’s markets full of fresh shrimp and produce, and more.

And with so much history having taken place in Georgetown, there are several museums in the area that are eager to educate visitors. Check out the Rice Museum, South Carolina Maritime Museum, The Gullah Museum, or the Georgetown County Museum.

So for the history buffs, culinary adventurers, shoppers, and maritime enthusiasts, Georgetown’s Harborwalk is a great place to spend a day or night or both.
