Indigo Farms

There are several farms around the Grand Strand for families looking to enjoy (or pick and then eat) fresh fruits and vegetables while on vacation. One such place is Indigo Farms, a family-owned operation dating back six generations. Located in the area surrounding the North Carolina-South Carolina border, Indigo Farms offers fresh-picked seasonal produce, as well as the opportunity to go out and pluck your own right off the vines. In the spring, juicy strawberries await those eager enough to go out and get them, and in the summer plump blueberries and blackberries take over the fields. Indigo Farms is also home to a Produce Market where a large variety of their seasonal goodies is available, in addition to local honey, cured meats, preserves, and locally-made bbq sauce. There’s also a bakery, known as Maude’s Country Delights, that specializes in pies, cookies, and lots of other homemade sweets. If you’re there in the spring, educational tours of the farm are offered daily, and everyone knows that no farm experience is complete without a visit with the animals. At the Barnyard, chickens, geese, goats, pigs, and sheep mill around waiting for visitors to come show them some love. And while you’re up in Calabash, check out one of the many restaurants that are home to the famous seafood preparation. It’s definitely a day-trip worth thinking about!
