Located on the south end of Ocean Boulevard, Myrtle Beach’s only art museum has been attracting and displaying fine works of art since 1997.
Past and present collections have included local, regional, national, and international artists whose work spans a wide range of mediums (painting, sculpture, fashion, quilts, maps, music). The museum plays host to openings for the ongoing collections, juried art exhibits, fundraisers, and more.
The staff also maintains a year-long schedule of workshops and educational opportunities for children, including Mommy and Me! (ages 3 – 4), Saturday Art Adventures (ages 5 – 7 and 8 – 12), Girl Scouts, and Summer Kids Art. Check their website before you plan your visit to learn more about dates and times and prices for classes.
The museum’s structure, essentially a beach house, also has a long history dating back to when it was built in 1924. The building was bought and sold and relocated over the years, finally ending up on the property where it currently sits nestled in among live oaks just a stone’s throw from the ocean.
With free admission and world-class exhibits, the Art Museum of Myrtle Beach is definitely bright spot in area’s cultural landscape.
