Co-owners Anne Hardee Taylor and Adam Kirby, who also serves as executive chef, created a unique culinary experiment with the opening of Bistro 217. Taylor and Kirby’s diverse restaurant backgrounds – hers in Lowcountry fine dining and his in both Southern and Pacific Rim cuisine – have combined for a successful and flavorful joint venture for even the pickiest Pawleys Island diners.
Bistro 217 specializes in a wide range of soups, salads and sandwiches for lunch and fresh local seafood dishes for dinner. The Crunchy Thai Shrimp Salad is one of eight popular salad options and the Tomato, Jalapeno and Crab Soup is a locals’ favorite. The Monster Bistro Burger gained acclaim in a feature in Southern Living Magazine. Using a blend of ribeye, filet and strip steak that is ground on site, seasoned only with salt and hand-patted, the “Monster” is topped with cheddar, bacon and a homemade mayo that sets off the flavor. Dinner is heavy on seafood dishes, such as the Pan-seared Lobster, Shrimp and Scallops and the Herb-Encrusted Grouper. Surf-and-turf options include the Grilled Filet and Seared Shrimp. Check out the impressive wine list and fresh coffees from the bar.
Bistro 217 is one of the few places that can pull off the formal setting with a casual, Pawleys Island attitude. Elegantly decorated with a folksy vibe, Bistro 217 is ideal for a romantic meal for two or a large gathering of family and friends. Occasional live music sets the mood for an enjoyably laid-back evening.
