This family-owned cantina adds a new twist to the same ol’ Mexican menu with different numbered dishes. In part due to the owners’ Guadalajaran roots but also because of its convenient Pawleys Island location, La Playa incorporates fresh seafood into its menu and brings a taste of the Carolina Coast to authentic Caribbean cuisine.
Sure, you can get all the traditional Mexican classics, such as tacos, burritos, enchiladas, etc., but you can find those at the next place down the street, too. What sets La Playa apart is the other items on the menu, such as the albondigas soup made of homemade Mexican meatballs. Of particular note are the seafood dishes, including fresh ceviche served in a traditional molcajete. Fish and shrimp tacos, seafood enchiladas and the La Playa Veracruz give guests plenty of options to enjoy fresh local seafood prepared with a Mexican twist. Perhaps the most popular item on the menu is the house margaritas, utilizing agave nectar, fresh-squeezed lime juice and agave tequila, take the heat out of the flavorful salsa and spicier concoctions.
This Mexican cantina is fun and friendly, as most customers are greeted at the door by one of the many family members who run the restaurant. Traditional Mexican décor masks a unique experience of good times and $3 margaritas.
