Experience a heaping helping of the holiday spirit and Southern charm at The Carolina Opry’s annual Christmas showcase, “The Christmas Show of the South”.
Taking the stage in November and December at The Calvin Gilmore Theater in Myrtle Beach, this holiday tradition features a talented cast of singers, dancers, musicians, comedians and more to spread Christmas cheer to packed houses. The shows deliver a multitude of classic holiday songs, dance numbers, a brass section, comedy routines and occasional special guests, including an appearance by Santa Claus riding in a one-horse open sleigh. The theme has a distinct Southern flavor with country and gospel songs and down-home humor.
The Carolina Opry also under goes a major holiday makeover to set the scene for the Christmas show. Featuring more than 5 miles of stringed lights, 75 wreaths and 35 Christmas trees, including a 30-foot centerpiece in the main lobby, The Carolina Opry is transformed into a winter wonderland where families can have holiday photos taken with a beautiful backdrop. The lobby also offers traditional holiday treats in addition to its usual concessions lineup, and a gift shop loaded with souvenirs to remember the occasion. After the show, performers make an appearance in the lobby to pose for photos and sign autographs.
The Carolina Opry offers year-round entertainment at the 2,200-seat venue, which features the best in lighting, sound and comfortable seating. The main event, The Carolina Opry’s self-titled show, runs the other 10 months of the year and brings top talent to the stage. Amazing vocalists, musicians, dancers and other entertainers perform constantly updated versions of the show.
Other productions that run throughout the year include Thunder & Light, a stunning performance of the tap-dance troop All That set to a laser-light show; Pure Magic, a jaw-dropping display of magic and illusions by The Wagsters; Time Warp, a tribute to the music of the 1960s and ’70s; and LIGHT Laser Show, featuring high-tech lasers and sound set to the music of world-renowned bands like Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd.
