Big KT’s is obviously known for its barbecue, but the family owned and operated eatery has gained a reputation for its country cooking, as well. Serving lunch and dinner, Big KT’s runs daily specials in addition to its famous Carolina-style BBQ. A full bar with draft beer also makes it a pretty cool hangout.
Barbecue is king as Big KT’s, and they serve it the traditional Carolina way – slow-cooked pork over hickory coals that is pulled, chopped and topped with your choice of sauce. Of course, the two Carolinas disagree over vinegar- or mustard-based sauce, and Big KT’s proudly serves both, along with a sweet rib sauce for folks from the North. Big KT’s also serves lip-smacking barbecue ribs and chicken, and daily lunch specials include fried chicken, pork chops and catfish along with a plethora of sides, such as the traditional mashed potatoes and gravy and mac and cheese to regional favorites like Brunswick stew and tomato pie.
Few restaurants can pull off the BBQ joint/country cooking/neighborhood bar trifecta but Big KT’s has a feel of all three rolled into one. The dining area says family picnic while the bar is often filled with locals who are repeat customers. The vibe is friendly and unassuming, just what you expect from all three venues.
