Cafe Old Vienna

Cafe Old Vienna

Experience a taste of authentic Bavarian cuisine in an unlikely location. This tiny cafe is tucked away in a strip mall in Myrtle Beach, but the charming interior and dynamic menu have created a strong local following that has kept it in business since 1997, when the husband and wife team of native Austrians Werner and Martina Horvath opened this establishment. Lunch and dinner is served with a two-hour break in between.

Cafe Old Vienna Food

Start things off with a house salad or cup of soup, but not too much because the entrees, per Austrian and German custom, can be a bit of the heavy side. A wide range of schnitzel options are served, like the traditional veal, pork and chicken, but some comes with a twist, like the Almond-Crusted Wiener-Schnitzel or the Farmers Schnitzel served with a sunny-side-up egg on top. Broader European dishes, like Chicken Cordon-Bleu, Sauteed Beef Livers, Hungarian Gulasch and Osso-Bucco, are available, and seafood choices include grouper and flounder. Lunch items include a variety of sandwiches, like the Vienna Reuben and the Bavarian Bratwurst, and side items like spatzel, German potato salad and red cabbage complete the meal. That is, unless you have room for the housemade apple strudel a la mode. Vegetarian and gluton-free items are available, as are an extensive wine list and beer lineup.

Cafe Old Vienna Atmosphere

Any doubts about Cafe Old Vienna’s authenticity from the outside are quickly erased once inside, where a friendly staff and a cozy cafe transport guests from a strip mall to an old-world state of mind. Light-wood fixtures and deep burgundy decor create a traditional Bavarian environment. Two small tables are set up curbside for those who want to enjoy the fresh air.
