Since 1971 this Cribb family-owned eatery has been serving some of the freshest seafood on the Strand. As one of the first establishments on Restaurant Row, the Chesapeake House combines Maryland-style seafood with true Southern hospitality to create a place that keeps crowds coming back for more year after year.
From the moment your server places a basket of hot hushpuppies and cinnamon rolls from the on-site bakery on your table, your mouth is in for a treat at the Chesapeake House. Try the famous fish stew or lobster pie as a warm-up to the main course, which includes fried seafood platters and fresh catch specials, including shrimp, scallops, lobster and grouper. The steamed crab legs are a hit, and the Chesapeake House has a nice selection of steaks and other “landfood” options to keep everyone in your party happy. Be sure to save room for dessert, which is made at the in-house bakery. An extensive wine list and full bar complete the experience.
The Chesapeake House’s location on a tidal pond offers excellent views of local wildlife, including alligators, seabirds and turtles. The dining area has a traditional nautical theme and a giant aquarium features unique views of sea life. A large bar area is suitable for dining and displays a 12-foot shark on the wall.
