Either there are a lot of people named Denny that own diners in this country, or this chain of eateries has managed to open up pretty much everywhere. Assuming the latter (they have upwards of 1,700 locations), if what you’re craving is a familiar meal in a familiar atmosphere, then Denny’s is at your service any hour of the day.
The menu here is big and exhaustive and American, offering mostly everything you would expect from a diner that serves breakfast, lunch, dinner, and dessert.
Breakfast options include several Slam-themed dishes, including The Lumberjack, which is two buttermilk pancakes, a slice of grilled ham, two bacon strips, two sausage links, two eggs, hash browns and choice of bread. A variety of Omelettes and Skillets and Breakfast platters round out the list, with feasts like the Peanut Butter Cup Pancake Breakfast (chocolate chip-stuff pancakes topped with hot fudge and peanut butter sauce, alongside eggs and hash browns and choice of meat), and the Ultimate Skillet (sausage, spinach, bell peppers, onions, mushrooms, tomatoes, potatoes, topped with two eggs and cheddar cheese).
Salads, Burgers, Sandwiches, and Soups make up the Lunch menu. The standouts include a Prime Rib Cobb Salad (also available with Grilled or Fried Chicken), the Bacon Slamburger (hand-pressed beef, hash browns, bacon, egg, pepper jack queso), and the Chicken Avocado Sandwich (grilled and seasoned, avocado, pico de gallo, lettuce, sour cream, whole wheat bun.
The dinner menu is also pretty comprehensive, covering steaks, seafood, chicken, and even Brooklyn Spaghetti & Meatballs. For those who want to live a little large, the T-Bone Steak and Shrimp (13oz/6 fried shrimp) is as big and fancy as it gets here, and comes with choice of two sides.
Denny’s has also added a Value Menu that is full of good deals, like the $2 Biscuits & Gravy with Hash Browns, $4 Build Your Own Chicken Wraps, $6 Classic Burger, and the $8 Chicken Loaded Potato Skillet.
If you can manage to save a little room for dessert, Denny’s has American classics like Apple Pie, Banana Split, New York Style Cheesecake, and a Build Your Own Sundae.
The people you share the restaurant with will vary greatly depending on the hour. For example, the after-church crowd and the after-last call crowd will create entirely different atmospheres. Other than that, the service and décor is as expected from such an ubiquitous eatery.
