This popular Pawleys Island establishment is actually two restaurants in one – the more formal main dining room is Frank’s, and the more casual outdoor patio deck and covered terrace is Frank’s Outback. This may sound duplicitous but they have two very distinct menus and atmospheres. The good news is you can’t go wrong with either choice. Both are top-notch.
It’s a little-known secret that you can order from either menu and both feature similar dishes. But Frank’s emphasizes its choice cuts of beef, lamb, pork and local game while Frank’s Outback features Lowcountry favorites like Shrimp and Grits and blackened fresh catch. Creativity and a focus on fresh local seafood and ingredients are the common denominators, and the nightly specials are often better than anything you will find on either menu. But the Pan-Fried Grouper with Shrimp in Dijon and Peppercorn Cream Sauce and the Wood-Fired Pizzas are among the standards that keep coming back for more.
Frank’s is a more formal setting but unique in that guests enter through the kitchen. Frank’s Outback is a bit more laid-back and features a waterfall and tree lights in the giant live oak tree that provides shade with its abundance of Spanish moss. In the cooler months you can request a table close to the stone fireplace for a romantic meal and setting.
