Grecian Delight Cafe

Those looking to get a taste of traditional fare from the Mediterranean peninsula of Greece don’t have too many options around the Grand Strand, but this authentic eatery is hoping to fill that void.

Grecian Delight Food

The menu here is full of dishes (and words) that you won’t see anywhere outside of a Greek restaurant. For example, you would be forgiven for not knowing exactly what Moussaka, Pastichio, Spanakopita, or Dolmadaki consist of. But no worries – descriptions are printed under all of the potentially-troubling words.

In addition to familiar dishes like Calamari and Hummus, the Appetizer list includes things like the previously-mentioned Spanakopita (thin Phyllo pastries stuffed with spinach, feta, and eggs, served with Tzatziki sauce) and Saganaki (a flaming Kefalotyri cheese dip served with fresh pita).

If you’re there for lunch, or just craving one for dinner, Grecian Delight has some of the best Gyro’s in Myrtle Beach. Choose from the Traditional Gyro (lamb, beef, lettuce, tomato, onions, tzatziki, and feta) or go for the Grilled Shrimp version. Other sandwich options include wraps and subs, and something called Souvlaki, which can come on a skewer or in between a pita pocket.

For larger appetites, several traditional Casseroles and Platters are offered. Two of the more traditional and popular items are Moussaka (an eggplant, zucchini, tomato, and meat sauce casserole with white cream sauce  on top) and Pastichio, which is essentially Greek’s version of lasagna. Platters are served with pita or house-bread and salad, and the list includes Gyro (beef and lamb), Pork Tenderloin, Pot Roast, Grilled Chicken, Half Baked Chicken, and Shish Kabob.

Of course, no Greek or Mediterranean restaurant would be complete without salads and pizzas, and Grecian Delight is no exception. And they also offer a small list of basic pasta dishes during dinner hours.

Grecian Delight Atmosphere

This is a casual European-style restaurant, which means that you don’t need to dress up. It also means that the food is cooked from scratch and sometimes takes longer than guests are expecting. But Greece is known as a place where an unrushed lifestyle is the norm, and considered healthy – they’re lifespans (especially on the islands) are longer than ours, on average. So bring your patience with you and enjoy a taste of one of Europe’s oldest national cuisines.
