Liberty Steakhouse and Brewery at Broadway at the Beach got so busy that they had to open a smaller spot down the road a few miles. The concept is pretty much the same – fresh beer and American cuisine – and Taproom stays almost as busy as its big brother.
The large menu draws influences from all over The States – Southern, Southwestern, Cajun, Lowcountry – and includes something for pretty much everyone.
Sections include Starter & Small Plates, Soups & Salads, Raw Bar, Pizza, Sandwiches, Specialty Steaks, Comfort Foods, Seafood, and Grilled Burgers.
The list of appetizers includes Crispy Calamari with sweet and spicy chili sauce, Jumbo Pretzels with spicy mustard and nacho cheese, Bleu Cheese Chips, Chicken Nachos with mixed cheeses, pico de gallo, jalapenos, black beans, and sour cream, and Buffalo Chicken Wings.
For Soups and Salads, Liberty offers She Crab and a Soup of the Day in cup or bowl size, as well as a House, Caesar, Wedge, Cobb, Blue Ribbon Chicken (cucumbers, red onions, tomatoes, ham, bacon, cheese, honey mustard), and a Bistro Steak Salad (bleu cheese, corn salsa, crispy onions).
Oysters and shrimp by the dozen or half-dozen are available from the Raw Bar, and other Seafood options include Fish & Chips, Charleston-style Crab Cakes, Grilled Salmon, Jumbo Fried Shrimp, and a new Fresh Catch daily.
Pizzas are available on hand-tossed dough or on a fried pita, and options include Mediterranean, White, BBQ Chicken, and the Taproom (hamburger, pepperoni, mushrooms, onions, mixed cheeses). Sandwiches include standards like Liberty Club, Buffalo Chicken, Liberty Steak and Cheese, Crabby Chris (crab cake, remoulade, lettuce tomato), and several taco options like Ahi Tuna, Fried Fish, and Blackened Shrimp.
Liberty’s Certified Black Angus Steak options include a 10oz Sirloin, 12oz Maui Ribeye, 18oz T-Bone, and 8oz Filet Mignon, and each can be complemented with Grilled Shrimp, Fried Shrimp, Crab Cake, Mushrooms and Onions, or Black and Bleu-style.
Grilled Burgers are also Black Angus, and highlights include the Red, White, and Bleu Burger (Cajun-crusted, bleu cheese crumbles and dressing, onion straws), Freedom Burger (cheddar, fried egg, Applewood smoked bacon), and Liberty Burger (caramelized onions, cheddar, lettuce, tomato).
And for those who like to enjoy Comfort Food with their beer, Liberty offers racks of Baby Back Ribs, Angus Beef Meatloaf, Honey Bourbon Chicken, and Liberty Chicken (mushrooms, onions, white wine butter sauce).
When the weather is nice, it’s hard to beat the outdoor seating of the beer garden, complete with bar tables, a big screen television, and live music on certain nights.
Indoor seating includes a long bar, large booths, tables, and a separate dining room for bigger parties.
Whether you decide to sit inside or out, the mood is almost always pretty vibrant, with locals, families, and friends hanging out enjoying the food and whatever’s on tap.
