Mulan Japanese

Hidden in a strip of businesses between Wal-Mart and 501, Mulan Japanese serves a full menu of Japanese cuisine and is open until two a.m. for dine-in or take-out. And unlike other local hibachi take-out joints, Mulan offers bottled beer and cold or warm sake to dine-in customers.

Mulan Japanese Food

With a full hibachi menu, fresh sushi, and authentic Pho Vietnamese soup (available Thursday through Sunday after 4 p.m.), Mulan has plenty of options to choose from. The hibachi comes with the standard vegetables (onions, carrots, broccoli, and zucchini) and a jumbo portion of fried rice. The sushi is noticeably fresh, nicely-portioned, and moderately-priced. Express Bowls are also available for the carnivore crowd. As for their version of “Japanese Mayo,” it’s of the tangy/liquidy variety (as opposed to creamy/thick) in a good way. To each their own.

Mulan Japanese Atmosphere

It’s not uncommon to find a diverse assortment of people here, especially late-night, which gives the place an interesting vibe, though interaction between unfamiliar patrons is very rare. There are two televisions above the dining area, so if you’re sitting on the right side of the booth you might see anything from a Seinfeld re-run to cable news to SportsCenter, though usually on mute.
