Prosser’s Bar-B-Que

This family-owned, family-style restaurant originated in nearby Hemingway, a small S.C.

town known for its barbecue. The Prossers brought their family recipe and Southern
hospitality to Murrells Inlet to give visitors a “land-food” alternative to all the great seafood
restaurants. That’s why locals and tourists alike line up for some of the best barbecue and
country cooking on the Grand Strand.

Prosser’s Food

The barbecue takes center stage at Prosser’s, which uses slow smoked pork over hickory
coals that is pulled, chopped and topped with a traditional vinegar-based sauce. The BBQ
platter includes cole slaw, baked beans and hushpuppies, but most folks forego the menu for
the country-cooking buffet. Fried chicken, ribs, hash, chicken bog, mac and cheese and lots
of home-style vegetables are part of the bounty. And because of its location in the Seafood
Capital of S.C., Prosser’s also features a rotating fresh seafood item on the buffet, such as
shrimp, crab cakes and oysters. A salad and dessert bar are included in the spread, and
Prosser’s serves some of the tastiest banana pudding and sweet tea anywhere.

Prosser’s Atmosphere

Prosser’s is a classic Southern café featuring wooden tables, chairs and even the buffet table.
The walls are adorned with signage paying tribute to the lovable pig. The staff is friendly
and fast with a refill, but the self-service system ensures a meal at your own pace. The lunch
crowd is pretty hectic thanks to the strong local support, but the tourists have discovered
this little diamond in the rough.
