Located along the Murrells Inlet MarshWalk, Wicked Tuna offers a different style of fare than many of its neighbors. The specialties here are creative sushi rolls, fresh fish, and marbled USDA Prime steaks.
Many different culinary avenues can be taken here, from classic dishes with a contemporary twist to entrees and salads completely unique to Wicked Tuna. The menu is more or less divided into two sections – a Grill menu and a Sushi menu – with various subsections on each.
The options for Grill menu Appetizers are mostly updated versions of old standards, like the Oysters Rockefeller which come on the half shell topped with jumbo lump crab, spinach, mushrooms, and a garlic lemon cream; or the White Corn Guacamole with queso fresco and hand-cut tortilla chips.
Salads offerings are similar in theory, with standards like Caesar, Greek, and Wedge competing with newer combinations like Roasted Beet & Arugula (goat cheese, candied pecans, vinaigrette), the Pork Belly & Chicken Cobb (romaine, bleu cheese, avocado, quail eggs, cherry tomatoes, and yellow beets), and the Kale & Apple Salad (radicchio, candied pecans, gouda, champagne vinaigrette).
The Surf entrees here are vast and based on what they’re able to get fresh from the local fishing community. The pairings are creative, and the standouts include Fried South Carolina Sea Bass (garlic cream, mac-n-cheese); Trigger(fish) Imperial (topped with scallop, shrimp, crab, and parmesan crust, served over Andouille sausage and asparagus risotto); and Pan Seared Scallops (cauliflower puree, tamarind brown butter, tomato and corn chutney. Other fish offerings include Mahi Mahi, Grouper, Flounder, Ahi Tuna, Lobster, Crab Cakes, Seafood Platter, Shrimp & Grits, and Fish & Chips.
Turf options include a Ribeye, Strip, Filet, St. Louis Ribs, Grilled Herb Chicken, and each can be paired with Garlic Mashed Potatoes, Garlic Cream Asparagus, Wild Mushroom Risotto, Fries, Shrimp & Lump Crab Grits, Spanish Rice, or White Rice.
On the Sushi menu, starters includes classics like Tuna Tartar and Squid Salad in addition to original offerings like the Tuna Pizza (tomato, red onion, jalapeno, queso fresco, Japanese mayo, spicy mayo, avocado mouse, and micro cilantro); and the Dragon Egg (a halved avocado stuffed with cream cheese, smoked salmon, blue crab, king crab, and spicy crab on top of tempura sweet potato with spicy mayo and sweet glaze).
The Maki, Nigiri, and Sashimi are standard fresh fare, but the Specialty Rolls bring a little bit of craziness to the menu. Consider the Wicked Tuna Roll, with tempura shrimp, lobster salad, and cucumber on the inside, and 7-spice seared tuna on top with ponzu sauce, sweet chili, and a Wasabi mousse. Or the Ceviche Roll, stuffed with tempura kani, cucumber, tuna, and salmon, and topped with yellowtail ceviche and micro cilantro. There are twenty Specialty Rolls in all, and each one is a unique construct.

The interior here is a contemporary twist (exposed ductwork, chic chairs) on the standard fishing town decor that is prevalent throughout Murrells Inlet. A vibrant sea blue theme permeates the dining room, appearing on (sushi and alcohol) bar panels as well as on the walls, but a hardwood ceiling and various nautically-themed artifacts don’t let you forget that you’re still in the old rod-and-reel village. Outdoor seating is available when the weather is nice, but striking views of the marsh are on display year-round.
