One of Myrtle Beach’s most popular attractions also happens to be one of the most recognizable names around the world – believe it or not. Ripley’s Believe It Not Odditorium, a name synonymous with the book of world records and some of the stranger sides of nature and man, takes guests on a tour of the curious world we live in.
Visitors can explore bizarreness around the globe in the heart of downtown Myrtle Beach. Located just across from the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk and the SkyWheel, this pop-culture museum displays the personal collection of famed world-traveler Robert Ripley, whose “Believe It Or Not cartoons” sparked the imaginations of generations of Americans and people worldwide.
This three-story building is situated on the busy corner of 8th Avenue North and Ocean Boulevard, but it would be hard to miss at any location due to the large, make-believe crack on the side of the wall. Eye-catching exhibits draw curious crowds to the corner for a sneak peek. Those whose interest is piqued enough to enter Ripley’s Believe It Or Not Odditorium are in for a guilty treat.
Exhibits bring Mr. Ripley’s life’s work of collecting “odd-ifacts” from around the world to the masses – some thought-provoking, other downright gut-wrenching. From a real shrunken head to a replica of a six-legged cow, the museum just keeps getting stranger at every turn.
The move from one floor to the next just keeps getting crazier as visitors debate the authenticity and discuss the absurdity of the more unusual exhibits. Get your picture taken standing next to an actual scale model of the world’s tallest and shortest known humans, or out front of the facility to the large floating boulder. Guests also can take home a souvenir from their experience by visiting the gift shop.
