We all love Myrtle Beach; the sun, the sand, the water, the great food, and so much fun! But sometimes the hustle and bustle of the city can be kind of tiring.

Cherry Grove and Little River are two fishing communities just outside of North Myrtle Beach. Though many visitors to the Grand Strand stay in these areas, those who are more familiar with the city may not be aware of the relaxing and fun things to do in these lesser-famous places.

For those of you who would like to learn a different side of the Grand Strand, we have compiled a list of the top 10 things to do in Little River and Cherry Grove.

Big "M" Casino

Docked in Little River, the Big "M” Casino boat sails just far enough (3 miles to be exact) to provide legal, Vegas-style gambling for locals and visitors. Enjoy a large variety of slot machines and table games such as blackjack, craps, roulette, 3 card poker, and more. If you have other activities scheduled, it’s okay! Big “M” Casino offers AM and PM cruises on some days which makes it easier for visitors to plan out their agenda. A cash bar and a buffet are also available on the boat, just in case you work up a thirst or hunger while gambling.

La Belle Amie Vineyard

Operating as a winery and gift shop in Little River since 2000, the story of La Belle Amie Vineyard starts long before then. With inspiration from her French wine making ancestors, La Belle Amie owner, Vicki, still uses old family secrets and recipes to craft her wine. Set aside some time in your vacation to visit this vineyard and partake in wine tasting, take a guided tour, or take a self-guided tour. Browse the gift shop and take home a gift for yourself or a loved one. Don’t forget to take a bottle of Twisted Sisters wine with you---it is, after all, made right here at La Belle Amie Vineyard!

Vereen Memorial Historical Gardens

Take a break from the beach and go for a long walk through Vereen Memorial Historical Gardens. Often referred to as Vereen Botanical Gardens, this hidden Little River attraction is completely free for everyone. With 115 acres of land, there are many things to explore here. Go for a long hike or stroll down a scenic pathway. Also pass over wetlands and marshes on wooden boardwalks. Vereen Gardens is a very quiet place, so it is great for those who just want to relax, read, walk, and be in nature. Despite its beauty, these gardens also have a really cool history. This land was donated to Horry County by the Vereen family, whose history with the land dates back to the Revolutionary War. Another awesome fact: Joshua Vereen entertained President George Washington here. How neat is that?

Little River Fishing Fleet

If you’re traveling and didn’t think to bring your fishing gear, that’s not a problem. Cherry Grove Pier has a full service tackle shop where you can rent equipment. There is also a gift shop where you can check out the selection of souvenirs, or grab an ice-cold beer or soda. Harold's on the Ocean

The Grand Strand is the legendary home of the shag, and Harold’s on the Ocean is no stranger to this famous jig. This oceanfront beach bar has been a local favorite for years, and serves up a ton of fun. Harold’s is open 365 days a year from 11 a.m. until 2 a.m., so the party never stops. This is the perfect spot if you want to hear some live music, sing karaoke, kick back and have a beer, and, of course, dance! Dancing and breathing in the salt water air will make anyone hungry, so Harold’s on the Ocean offers up a variety of delicious meal options, including their revered steamed shrimp.
