Myrtle Beach Art Classes and Shopping at Art & Soul
The play of light on water and sand at the beach always seems to inspire … perhaps that’s why such great art can always be found at the beach! Myrtle Beach is no exception, and Art & Soul, an Artisan Gallery is just one option for the artfully-inclined, offering both art classes and original works of art for your home collection.
Art & Soul’s classes are great for novices and more experienced artists alike in everything from watercolor painting to drawing, jewelry making and pastels. Many classes are offered for adults and youth as a package in multi-class bundles, but you can also take just one class if that’s all you have time for. Kid’s art classes are usually available Saturday mornings, and adult classes throughout the week. You can check the website for details on classes offered, but reservations are required.
One popular event is an “Arty Party” painting session for groups, families or individuals. “In a matter of two hours you can leave with a painting or a pair or handmade glasses or mugs,” said Rebecca Zdybel of Art & Soul. “We provide the instruction, the materials and the venue, our patrons may BYOB if they desire. Our customers pick the date, the time and the painting they would like to paint. We have a large selection of potential paintings from which to choose.” The parties cost $35 per person and themes vary. Call for details and reservations.
Every third Thursday of the month Art & Soul also has our Thirsty Third Thursday events with special projects from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.; these pre-planned Arty Party evenings are available on a drop-in basis. The gallery can also be a great place to meet artists at special art receptions and events. Coming up on March 23, an artist reception to come meet local artist Dixie Dugan will be held from 2 to 5 p.m.
Art & Soul also has a café that offers organic, fair-trade coffee, free Wi-Fi and outdoor café tables. Café favorites include pastries, cakes, chicken salad and soups such as butternut squash, she-crab and hamburger soup.
Art & Soul is owned by Rita Siegal Levine, who first moved to Myrtle Beach with her family in 1963. She retired after a creative career as an interior floral designer and felt the Myrtle Beach area needed an injection of art. The gallery carries an array of media, including photography, watercolors, acrylics, oils, metal work, glass and pottery. Out-of-town shoppers need not worry about transporting their new treasures home, as Rita and her team are experienced crating and shipping.
