Sizzling Summer Swimwear Trends
You haven't eaten a slice of cake since the start of the new year, and your water intake has reached epic proportions. The kids have been parading around the house in their inflatable swim rings, and even your husband has been styling his hair with saltwater to get that fresh-from-the-ocean look at work. Beach season’s almost here, and the whole family wants to look their best on the sand and in the waves. Check out these beachwear trends to keep the whole family looking hot this summer.
For women: There are so many trends to choose from this summer that women are bound to find at least one they want to show off at the beach. The one that will appeal to most women is the plethora of embellishments seen on the swimwear runway this spring. Both one-piece suits and bikinis will be adorned with fabric-covered rings, gold studs, and hardware that connects one piece to the other. Crochet is everywhere, either in small pieces used as accents to enhance a silhouette or in entire cover-ups that reveal just enough skin to keep things interesting. Belts will be a big deal, and you can either find a design with one already sewn in around the midsection as a contrasting piece, or you can add a studded leather showstopper to your regular suit to give it new life. Saturated color is everything this season, and the patterns we're seeing are fearless. Everything from jungle to bohemian is up for grabs, and the more straps and tassels and fringe, the better.
For men: Embellishments are also big for men, whether it be a simple visible tie on the outside of a pair of boxer brief trunks or a flap pocket with a metal button on looser shorts. Bright colors are everywhere, especially neon oranges and yellows, and bold patterns like camouflage get new life with pinks and blues. Men’s swimwear is looking a little skimpier this season, so don’t be afraid to show off some leg.
For the kids: Safety is the #1 concern when it comes to kids and the sun, so you’ll be seeing lots of long-sleeved cover-ups and rash guards, but kids’ beach trends are still all about fun, so the colors are wild and the patterns are bold and geometric. Like a game of dress-up using Mom’s closet, this season’s children’s swimwear has a lot of the same design details–fringe, extra straps, cut outs–as suits for women this season.
Pick just one trend to keep your style more classic, or go all out and combine your favorites for a stunning summer look. Either way, you’ll bring a piece of the runway to Myrtle Beach this season.
